Hello, im a bit of a Aloe newbie. My brother got me interested in these plants when he returned from living in Lanzarote about 6 years ago. Ive owned a few small plants ( but none the size that my brother has ) I was at my local bootfair on saturday and was instantly drawn to some plants being sold by a gypsy man of about 75 to 80. WOW i thought !! What a brilliant Aloe. He had 2 pots of Aloes larger than any i had seen in the UK and one of them had a long stem coming from the centre of it with flower bells coming from it not unlike what some of my succulents produce. I have never seen an Aloe in flower so made the purchase instanty. Sadly the flower stem was snapped ( he said it must have happened in transit ) but ive taken some photos so you can see. Its in a large plastic pot and also has what could possibly be seeds growing all around it.
I realy want to look after this mature baby ( and my brother is very jealous - I keep telling him to get out of bed earlier as you never know what you may find at a bootfair )
Any advice on repotting, placement, soil, fertilizer and watering would be very well receieved.
Thankyou for listening, Winston

Hey Winston!

Welcome to the forums... and I must admit, you're one of the most enthusiastic aloe newbies I've seen! It seems that you have a special connection with aloe vera! Be sure to read around the forum and find out ways to take good care of it.

My first memory of aloe vera goes back to when I was a little boy, my mother used to put butter and aloe vera on my burns. I don’t remember how I got those burns in the first place (except that one time when I touched the stove she cooked on), but I can remember the pain.

My mom used to grow aloe vera around the house and give it to friends. Perhaps that's why I've been growing aloe vera all my life.

Hope to see you around the forums more often!

Cheers!
