Aloe Arborescens vs. Aloe Barbadensis?

Postby jaigst on Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:32 pm

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Aloe Vera world - just trying to figure stuff out.
I was surprised on how very few places existed where people got together to discuss this amazing plant.

I first heard about eating/using Aloe from these websites a few weeks ago:

http://www.cephashotshop.com/
http://www.aloeveraforhealth.com/

It appears as though many people scrape the gel (discard the leaf) from Aloe Barbadensis Miller on a daily basis and eat it. But the only information I found on Aloe Arborescens is by Father Ramano Zago in Brazil - but his books are virtually non-existent in public libraries or even local bookstores. He appears to advocate eating a whole leaf preparation (rather than just the gel), but in smaller amounts.....

Does anyone know if one kind is more powerful than the other??? Many sites seem to say just that.. I have experience eating Aloe Barbadensis - but nobody seems to know if it would be okay to blend a whole leaf of Arborescens and drink that in the morning instead. Any information would be great.

In a nutshell, I guess I'm trying to figure out which kind of Aloe I should eat daily to get the greatest range of general benefits/nutrition/energy/etc... I am not trying to cure a disease or anything like that. Thanks for reading!

Aloe barbadensis miller is in fact the most potent, and by far the most widely used.

I took a look at those links that you found, very interesting.

I was suprised to see because I know this gentleman Cepha.

I am from the same area, and very familiar with that part of town, I know Cepha from his great food.
I had no idea he made Aloe vera drinks there also, so I am going to go down to Ybor soon and try one!

You know I love some Aloe Juice to drink!

Thanks all for answering so far.

It was getting confusing for me because sites like the one below are claiming that Arborescens is in fact more potent than regular aloe vera.

http://www.fitnessarts.org/Aloe_Arborescens.htm

I also keep reading it is primarily used medically in Japan, Italy, South America, other European countries..... I can't help but wonder why they use this kind instead of Aloe Barbadensis, if that is in fact more potent. :?:
